Where Does AI Actually Belong in a Chiropractic Practice? | Dr. Aaron Bailey | Part 2 | S2E22
Where does AI actually earn its keep in a chiropractic practice, and where is it being sold as something it's not?
Dr. Aaron Bailey is back for Part 2. Last time, he told us why he walked away from the seven-minute visit and what he built in its place. If you missed that one, go back and hear it first. It's the setup for everything we get into today.
This time we get practical. He picks the one framework he wants you to remember from the Three E's, the Five Pillars of Whole-Body Health, and Tiny Stacks. He explains why patient compliance is a habit-design problem, not a motivation problem, and how he thinks about building a practice where income isn't chained to the calendar.
Then we get into AI: what's oversold, what's actually useful, why he helped build ChiroScribe, and what he'd never let AI touch. We close with a direct message to the doctor who's tired and the one in year three. Subscribe so you don't miss the next episode.
This episode is for educational purposes and isn't medical advice. Talk with your own provider about your situation.

If you still got some of that fire in your belly, that means that you really continue to want to take care of people. This is where I get my life back. If I fix this and my and when my day closes, I'm at zero. We need the AI to do the heavy lifting. So that's where AI really pays for itself. And that's where we have to get it into our practice. This is possible. The notes and that part of it doesn't need to run my life.
SPEAKER_03You're about to hear a chiropractor tell me the 90 minutes a day he handed back to his profession was never really about the software. And once you hear him explain why, you might start looking at your own practice a little differently. This is part two. Welcome back to Beyond Adjustments. I'm your host, Amin Said, and this is part two of our conversation with Dr. Aaron Bailey, founder of Vining Spine and Health Center, Chief Chiropractic Officer at Cairoscribe, practicing since 1999. That was my first year of college, guys. Just saying. But if you missed part one, hit pause, please go back one episode, listen, then come back. Go ahead, I'll wait for you. We covered his why, we covered the practice he built in place of that seven-minute visit and then uh the three frameworks underneath it. We try to at least we could talk for hours. If I it felt like I feel like we just literally scratched the surface of it all, but but but today we get into the practical stuff, the business model, where AI actually earns its keep in a chiropractic office. And a couple of direct messages to doctors listening right now. Dr. Bailey, welcome back. Welcome back. Thank you, I mean, thank you, sir. Yeah, absolutely. All right, business hat on. Okay. This is where I might make you slightly uncomfortable because most doctors did not open a practice to run a business, but you did open a business, whether you framed it that way at the start or not, and you built one where your income is not chained to your calendar, all that. Let's let's actually talk about that because this is where the DCs in my audience really need you. Most DCs listening right now are trading hours for dollars and quietly burning out. You've lived that you shared that with us. You talked about your health and how it deteriorated over time. And if they can if they can only fix one system this quarter, what's the one you'd tell them to fix first?
SPEAKER_01Well, it depends on how you're practicing, like what your situation is. So if you're working for someone else, then you know you're working for somebody else, and you have to kind of do it their way. But of course, you can introduce your own innovations, you can be your own free thinker, and you can maybe help that practice run more efficiently. Um whether it directly creates value for you and your paycheck or not, it's still you know something that that you can do. So when the the landscape of chiropractic today, chiropractic practice and the business of the chiropractic practice, when it comes to healthcare insurance, it's completely different than when I first started. The people having this little card that they come in and say, Hey, this is my health insurance card. This card, this is how they feel, of course, insures my health. So I'm gonna give this thing to you, doctor, and these people are gonna pay for what I need. And in in the business of it, the reimbursements are just terrible these. A lot of Kairos do not take x-rays because they were kind of taught that way in school. There's that's a whole different conversation of how that has come about. But one of the things that they can do if you're dealing with issues with reimbursements and the amount of time spent on documentation, because I've I've never met a chiropractor that loves to document. We just do it, and every person that I know that, oh yeah, on the weekends, or I go in on a Friday evening and I'll do two hours here, or I'll do this, that. And I was in the same place. I was like, I have got to make a change. Because when I was leaving my practice, I wasn't at zero, the day wasn't closed out completely because I hadn't done all my documenting. And the entire energy of trying to appease a third party that's never met you or the patient, or never walked into your practice and see what kind of value that we create for people, you know, it's tough. It's we just the energy of it, you just don't want to do it. So getting the the process of documenting down, if you're still gonna do insurance, is a thing that I understood like this is where I get my life back. If I fix this and my and when my day closes, I'm at zero. That's still a work in process because AI is still new in a lot of ways when it uh comes to interacting in a chiropractic practice. But I I would say that would be the first thing that they you gotta handle. Like, can you close out your day at zero? And can we never take any of this homework carrying it in our mind with us that what we haven't done, and it's just taking up space on the hard drive.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that's good. I know a lot of um chiropractor or chiropractic owners, practice owners that have actually dropped insurance because it was just yeah, it was just it was just too much. It is, yeah. Okay, well, that's a good one. So talk a little, we'll talk revenue, right? Not gonna ask you numbers, workshops, education, structure plans, all these things probably revolve around your practice. What roughly shape or or what yeah, shape your your revenue kind of today? Like what where's your focus? And then kind of a follow-up to that would be what percentage is tied to you personally being in the room with a patient?
SPEAKER_01Well, right now, presently, there's still more time tied to me being in the room than where I'm going because it's a process. So I I still see clients three times per week for half of a day where I'm delivering chiropractic care. I still take care of uh people that have been in auto accidents. Um and just earlier this, no, no, this is uh Wednesday. So and just last week, a lady brought me her three-month-old and say, Can you check my newborn son? She's a first-time mom. And can you check his spine for misalignments? So it's to me, it is a it's a piece of it's a pie. And there are revenue points that come from here, they come from different streams and different types of uh people. Yeah, but but the goal is is because I've always had as part of my purpose to help as many people as I can. And so in this day and age, like what vehicle can serve that purpose? So if we can get to people virtually, if we can create a program that they can follow that we know that people need, and let's have the revenue start coming from there so we don't have to reinvent the wheel and trading one-on-one time for dollars in in that same type of manner. So, because when you make digital content, it's reproducible uh for infinity, it never goes away. It's always there once you create it. If it's good for people, because human beings, we haven't changed how our how we express health, it hasn't changed. So, and and and with the landscape of what's going on in the United States, that has to change for a long period of time as well. So, so we created a program. I adopted some of this program, and and it gives people that re-education and helps walk them through what it's like to be healthy now. Is that the the workshop piece? That is the that's getting into the longevity reset method.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_01And there's an online curriculum that gotcha happens with that.
SPEAKER_03Gotcha. And the the workshop piece of it, right? You still you're still doing that. It's like a 60-minute workshop or something like that.
SPEAKER_01I do in-office workshops.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_01And I do webinars and just just started doing webinars just recently. Nice. And um, I don't know how it was when you first started doing this, but you know, when you first started, it's like I was I think really I was so bad. Awful, yeah, absolutely. Uh yeah, that stage now. Yeah, I get it. Because it it's a process. So uh the last one that I delivered, I didn't have any feedback from people. I'm just talking to a camera. This and I'm like, this is really challenging. There's no other face, not one face I can see. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, it's not easy, yeah. Yeah, yeah. So, so uh, so doing the workshops, workshops, uh, I I do those for free. Uh so that's are those strength.
SPEAKER_03Qu a question about the workshop. Are those like do your patients have to go through that hour workshop before they're actually seen by you, or how does that work?
SPEAKER_01Not yet.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_01But I I imagine that it will go that way. And in the chiropractic practice, currently, people that show up are largely looking for chiropractic care and give them the option of doing the going through the workshop and learning about the whole body wellness. Got it. Got it. But I can certainly uh envision that we'll flip it a bit, especially if in that first interaction with people that I know that they fit the model and that they really need the longevity reset method more than they just need nervous system work.
SPEAKER_03The first, I don't know, 10 times you filled that room for for the workshop. I'm assuming you you have multiple, multiple people in that workshop at once. It's not just a one-on-one kind of thing. Correct. What would you have not learned any other way? Like, like, are you learning also what people's behaviors are, what they what they need as you're doing these workshops? I'm assuming they're like asking questions and and things like that. Do you recommend them?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. So, you know, the the longer that you spend with human beings talking about something like health, you certainly understand and learn their patterns of behavior. And uh it's tough. It's tough. We I don't like to use the word brainwashing or being brainwashed, but we have been mentally conditioned as a society, as a U.S. culture, that the path to or the way I should approach my health is with medicine, with traditional medicine. We've been brainwashed, you can say that.
SPEAKER_03Okay, I can say that here a hundred percent space. This is absolutely thankful. We've been brainwashed.
SPEAKER_01Thank you, I mean, for God's sake, space. It's all about truth, man. 100%. So it's tough, and these days, people are so overly sensitive about things that are not important. I had a lady last week or yeah, and she's still uh bugging me about this. She in the she's a chiropractic patient, and she said she stopped coming in because Dr. Bailey kicked my shoes, and I felt so uncomfortable. He kicked my shoes, and I'm like, I kicked her shoes. I've never in in 27 years of practice, like, what did I punt it? Did I kick it off and make it to the 20-yard line? So she's referencing that she took her shoes off by the table and I took my feet and slid her shoes underneath the table.
unknownWow.
SPEAKER_01And she said it made me so uncomfortable. Oh, poor lady. She said, Can I get my money back for the visits that I came before then? So dealing with the mentality of people these days, it is it is so different. And and this person, she, you know, she came into the office with uh like regular sandal shoes. It wasn't like you wearing some super red bottom stiletto or something or this or that, but this is what we have to deal with as as practitioners uh in 2020. That is it in the United States.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Wow.
SPEAKER_02Wow.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So when it when it comes to being in the workshops, I genuinely find that people they need help, they want help. And the tough thing is, is most people they want it for nothing.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Or next to nothing.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. But there are people that if they get enough leverage on themselves that they're willing to say, let me exchange some value and and and let me go through this and let me give you this 5,000 bucks for this program that's gonna last for 90 days or for four months. You know, because when I was first as a as a practitioner, I'm like, what do you mean I'm only gonna see them for six or 12 adjustments and they're gonna give me 5,000 bucks? Huh? And then you have this feeling of like, well, I'm not really giving value if I'm not having my hands and adjusting people and doing all this kind of stuff. Yeah, but the real thing that we have to stay connected to is results. Yeah, and what our our purpose is our result. So, whatever result that we're getting in life, that's really our life's purpose. That's good.
SPEAKER_03Results, results are key, and it's it's one thing that's hard to really drill through brains like mine as the as the patient, is it's a long game. You're not gonna go into the chiropractor and walk out completely healed, but you can have a visit that could change something significantly, especially if your mind is in the right place. Correct. It has a lot to do with what we believe about chiropractic care, also 100%. So that's a big one, but I want to pull it back just a little bit because the the workshop piece, I touched on it because we also touched on kind of today's social media age a little bit, um, and how practices are run. Well, here's a fun fact because if and this is really more for well-run kind of wellness establishments, right? So, so that that wellness and the education workshops in honestly in any kind of local service business, because yes, it um we're talking about chiropractic care, but any kind of health um that adopts this, convert, I want to say somewhere between 30 and 50 percent of the attendees to a paid next step. So with you having something of so much value, bringing people in the room, I I guess the webinar can be a complement to that, but there's something about being in the room that dramatically changes that outcome. It dream it's dramatically better than any digital funnel. 100% that that I could build for a practice, or the practice can build itself now with AI, right? 100%. And and it's a it's a room with no ad spin on top. It's just a chair. And it's you know, maybe a video projector or a screen, right? And and you're teaching. And here's where it actually flips, and why the 50% mark actually gets hit. It's when you're actually giving them value. So you're not just teaching them something about chiropractic care, you're giving them nuggets, you're telling them here, do this, do that, this will help you. Giving them valuable pieces of information to walk away with. I do that even in technology. I have meetings with people all the time that I don't charge for. They're like, okay, what does the session cost with you? Absolutely free. I will tell you anything and everything that you need to know that will add value to your life. Nobody's gonna do it. The half that do try it, but then they still need the help to complete it. With chiropractic care, if you get people in the room and you're teaching them, hey, do this and do that, they're only gonna get maybe 10, 20% of the way there. The rest is the actual care that they receive from you. So I'm speaking to those doctors that are just fully relying on, yeah, social media page and the snapcrackle pop of their Instagram and TikTok and all that. Wonderful, do that, have fun with that. Okay, continue to work your hands to help and heal people and help get bodies back to where they need to be so that they can heal heal themselves. But do these workshops, bring people in, have a face-to-face, touch them, yes, or go out and do screenings as well. Screenings. I have uh uh uh chiropractors that I talk to that um affiliate with local soccer teams or baseball teams or or whatever, and they go out and they set a table up. The other day I did a 5k run with my chiropractor. Um, he had a table out by um, you know, by by that event, and he literally was just talking to people and just giving away stuff. Like he wasn't like come to my no, he was just at just talking, literally just talking. But these workshops are are are critical anyway. I went on a rant there, but they're so important because it brings back the element of of that human touch. Yeah, I know people don't like to be touched these days, whatever. Shake a hand, dude. Like let's get back to basics in this situation. Yeah, that's all I'm saying.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, people think that they don't like to be touched, but human beings, we're we're all the same, and we all need and want love and like uh I I think as Stephen uh Covey said to to live, to learn, to love, and to leave a legacy is like the some four big human needs to live, to love, to learn, and to leave a legacy. All human beings are baked in with that. And uh you're right. The because people get in the car and they show up if they come to your office, that first step is the critical thing because they've taken that first action to show you that, yeah, I really want help here. And then it's just can you connect with them and and can you translate to them like, hey, I'm somebody that knows what talking about. The first thing is they got to know you care because they don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. And if you can translate that you really care about people and that you're gonna do your dead level best to help them be a healthier person, then then you've created a situation where you can exchange. They'll give you uh what you asked for. They you're trading your you're selling your talent, not your time. And the more talented you are, the better you are at what you do. Then, of course, then you can condense that the the time that's involved, and then your revenue is just overall better. If we're just talking about the business and we're talking two chiropractors, yeah. I was telling my chiropractor, I have a young chiropractor who's independent contracting with me now. He's been out for three, four years or something like that. I was telling the same thing, you can't leave out the screenings. Go to these companies, go and talk to people, meet people. People are cool. Yeah, they can be cool, they're good to interact with. Yeah, and it's good to just take out that moment and just have that uh human experience for other people. Yeah, we you know, in in this day and age with the politics in the United States, it's more us versus them than I've ever felt it in my 50, almost 54 years of life. And the thing that we want to, you know, bring everybody back to is it's just us. We're just people, we're all here on the planet at the same time. And it's our duty and that I believe to help each other along. It's just chiropractors, we're helping people in this health space. You help people in a different way, but you're contributing to the health space and whatever you do with technology, that's your day job, uh so to speak. Yeah. Uh, but yeah, yeah, can't leave it out.

SPEAKER_03Yeah, well, speaking of technology, let's contradict ourselves a little bit here and talk about AI a little.
SPEAKER_02Yep.
SPEAKER_03Um, you're the chief chiropractic officer of Cairo Scribe, which means every AI scribe, marketing bot, and AI receptionist vendor on the planet pitches you before breakfast, I'm sure. But I want your honest read, right? So where does AI where does AI actually earn its keep inside a chiropractic practice? And where is it being sold as something it's not?
SPEAKER_01Number one, it saves a ton of money with employees. And and this is the whole double-edged sword with with AI. Um, is it taking jobs? But I've been in practice uh yeah, 27 years, and I've had a lot of employees. And the work ethic of people these days and their value of holding and keeping the same job is night and day different than when I first started. Back in the day, people were like, I'm gonna come to work and I'm going to actually work for you. I understand that I need to work. But when cell phones and social media came along, the the dopamine that that thing is given when they're scrolling is just far sexier than work. Like, this is way better. Yeah, so dealing with distracted employees that expect a significant stack of money, uh, because the starting salary has certainly gone way up since uh since I was first in practice. Uh, so that's the first place the AI earns its keep. It's going to save you from um increasing employees and having employees do it that is, you know, and the AI is not 100% reliable. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah it's got bugs, yeah. But having uh just only relying on people to do it, it's gonna be more costly. So my philosophy is, and when Kyra Scribe, when we first came up with this, my I have a uh a great friend, uh Kevin Poindexter. This guy's brilliant, by the way. I I have never seen a human being process information so quickly over a computer uh than this guy. Um I'll tell you the the a quick story. Uh one day I had some kind of thing going on in practice. When you know, us chiropractors, we know whenever it's go time, you got a whole lot of spinning plates. You have to get people seen in a certain amount of time so your revenue can be right, so you can feed our we can feed our families and all this different kind of thing. So your brain has to be on. So I was having an issue with um a computer. I get this pop-up and said, Oh, your computer's getting taken over. So I'm messaging back and forth with my buddy, which I do every day, him and another guy. And I say, uh, KP, I've got this thing that came up. Can can one of you guys help? The other guy, Perrin, uh great friend of mine. Perrin was probably traveling the world or in an airport or something like that. He said, I can't get to it right now. And and so KP's like, you know, I'll try to go back and remember this small little thing that you have going on because he's in cybersecurity, like and does big stuff like that. Um, so he logged into my computer, and I've never in my life, and I have a lot of IT people, I've never seen a mouse move so fast. Never. It was just I was sitting there looking at the screen like, wow. I knew he was a smart guy, is why why uh we're great friends because I surround myself with incredibly smart people. But I was telling him about this issue, and I was like, man, I this is just taking me too much time to document, and I want to do documentation thoroughly. And the goalpost of the insurance companies is always moving, uh, and and they're always trying to find something that you didn't do, so they can say that they they don't want to pay you. Uh so KP says, well, let's talk about it. He fixed that the problem that I had. So he's like, let's talk about this issue. Maybe I can help you. So we have a meeting over the phone, a lay it out, this is what's going on, this is what's going on. What I really because at the time I was taking my iWatch and I was recording a voice memo on my iWatch, recording that voice memo, then I was transcribing it, then I was putting in it to my chat GBT, having it create a note for me, and then I was posting that to the EMR that I was using. So there's a lot of mouse clicks in that. And the way the current uh EMR that I'm using, not really giving a note that's really nice and compliant that the insurance company wants, and there's a lot of mouse clicks in that. So I have used, oh my God, so many different EMR systems, but none of them were getting what chiropractors really needed, which was I don't want to have to think about these things. I want to set up the framework and the rules of how I talk with people. And I want you to understand what my conversation is and kind of read in between the lines. You can teach the AI to do that. Um, and then create me a note that I don't have to tell you every single thing and you just transcribing my exact words over to a document, you know, so for it to be interpretive. And I wanted it to do from the watch because the watch is easy, boom, you hit the thing, and you don't have to think about anything else. You just have a regular conversation with people. So that's how Cairo Scribe was born. So uh KP says, well, send me this, send me that, and I'll start working on some stuff and I'll just try to figure it out. So the next thing I know, this guy's created an entire app. Because we didn't set it out to be, I didn't say, hey, KP, make me KP. When I say KP, I'm talking about Kevin Poyndexter, the uh the person who developed uh Kyroscribe and created it from a digital standpoint, made it the app that it is today, and uh of how this thing has continued to evolve and add value to practitioners. But I never set out to say, hey, I want you to create me an app and I wanted to do this, this, this. But then after he says, hey, I created this whole app, I'm gonna call it Chiber Scrap. I'm like, okay, huh? He says, well, it'll work with your watch and we'll do this, that. So that's how we we started, and then spending countless hours developing it, using it. This problem is here. You know, that's the creative process of doing something like this. So the beautiful thing about it is you can open up your iWatch that for iPhone users, you can hit the button and it starts recording. Then you have an experience with the client and it records far bet all the information that the client's talking about of their history and all that kind of stuff, it's gonna capture that stuff way better than if we have to remember it and go sit down and click a mouse.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, exactly. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So then um how it runs in the background and creates the notes, you know, put your X-rays in there and interprets the X-rays, MRIs, creates the treatment plans for you, interprets what you're talking about, and understands that this is the most probable diagnosis, and go ahead and give that diagnosis to you. All of these things is what I told the KB. I was like, we don't want to have to think about it. We need the AI to do the heavy lifting and to try to have a human being employee do this and follow you around, which a lot of practitioners have done, and some practitioners still do. Whew, it's taxing and it's way more expensive.
SPEAKER_03Sure.
SPEAKER_01So that's where AI really pays for itself, and that's where we have to get it into our practices. I know a lot of DCs and they haven't gotten AI into their practice this much. They certainly heard about it, they're interested in it, they're thinking about it. Most people's EMRs have saying, hey, you can prescribe, uh transcribe with AI now, and the thing that I use. But the issue is that is is still thinking of it from a medical model. And in a chiropractic practice, we're not gonna, I'm not just gonna see a mean and say, oh, well, now after I've seen a mean, I've I've taken six, seven minutes to perform the alignment now, means on to doing his rehabilitative stuff, and now I'm gonna sit down in a controlled environment and talk to a device about what I just did on a mean so it can create a note. No, you can't do it. You got to go from the next person to the next person to the next person because there's not enough revenue in seeing fee for service and the chiropractory practice. There's not enough revenue to really do it another way. So the great thing about chiro scribe, I can hit the watch. This is a mean Said. Is that your last name? Yes, Amin Saeed. He's here for a daily visit, and then I just start talking do my thing. Then when I finish with you, I don't have to hit stop or anything else, the next person, and this is uh Joe Said. He's the next person. I might say his date of birth, I might not, but the you know, after it gets established, it understands. And now I'm on Jane Doe and Billy next client is Billy Billy Bob. And now Billy Billy Bob is on the table, and then what Kyra Scribe is gonna do is gonna take all of those notes, it's gonna chop them up and send them in their different directions.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that's awesome.
SPEAKER_01Really cool, saves a lot of time, yeah. It really does. Yeah, that's awesome, and and it's it's still a work in progress. Yeah, you know, it's not perfect yet, but just like with the amount of time that I've been using AI, and I'm sure that you can attest to this, it's just getting better and better. Yeah, oh yeah, absolutely.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Um, I mean, my my business wouldn't exist if AI hadn't gotten as expend exponentially uh um useful. Um unfortunately, though, it's being misused um now in the education system, and that's the problem.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So not just in schools, but like educating from a lot of different things, um, even when it comes to religion, people are making things up and people are taking it as truth and things like that. So it's it's a little, it's a little worrisome. I again, my my my business wouldn't be where it is if it wasn't for AI. So I I completely get it. Every product that we touch has some sort of AI infused into it. So a hundred percent get it. Love what you built, I think it's really cool. We have something similar, it's not chiroscribe, but it's um it's not out. It's just an EHR that we're building that also automates the um the medical building piece as well. So we're we're working through that also, which uh that should be fun. Anyway. So what what part of the chiropractic practice would you never let AI touch?
SPEAKER_01The part of it when it comes to I mean, for my thing, you have to deliver the alignment, yeah. And and and um the interpreting of the nervous system is something that AI will never be able to reproduce.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Uh there will never be a uh well, you know, they never say never, but there won't be a robot that can really understand what is going on uh with this person's nervous system and be able to understand it and then just deliver it right on right on the spot. And after these number of years of practicing, I have deeply learned more and more about having a conversation with a nervous system that I can't have with the person. So these days I I literally can just deal with the energy in your body, and I can get feedback from your nervous system and and you don't need to say a word. All you need to do is participate in a muscle testing that I'm doing.
SPEAKER_03Because if if the if the day comes when the machine writes the note and does the adjustment, yeah, I I just just a two-week heads up would be fine, so I can kind of invest in whatever uh robo robot polo shirt company goes public, so that can Yeah, that would be that would be big. The whole chiropractic profession would be uh looking for a new job who's tired, who is not sure they want to do another decade of this, who is quietly googling exit valuations at 10 o'clock at night. Um, they're they're not gonna raise their hand, um, but they are here. What do you say to that doctor?
SPEAKER_01It all goes back to why and purpose. What is your purpose in life? Do you do you still love the practice of chiropractic? Or is it the business of the practice of going to your practice, the thing that's burning you out? Is it the insurance companies that you're fed up with? Or are you afraid that you can't make a living without the insurance companies? Um, so that's what I say to them like really get reconnected with your why. Is there something else in life that is a new chapter? And if that's the new chapter, then enjoy your life, man, or enjoy your life, girl. Uh and and and with grace, go ahead and and sell and do your thing. But if you still got some of that fire in your belly that means that you really continue to want to take care of people, then put the AI into the practice where it needs to be. The the uh thing like chiroscribe, put it in and and start to be like, hey, you know what? This is possible. The notes and that part of it doesn't need to run my life, and maybe you can feel that thing get rekindled a bit. So, you know, being a chiropractor means that you already sign up for not having a lot of freedom because we're chained to the adjustment table. Yep, and then people make us feel guilty when we go on vacation. How dare you! Oh, I know. Oh, Dr. Bailey, I needed you, and uh this and that. My back was killing me, and it just wears on you, and they just come and dump all this stuff, and I and I, you know, these days I've just learned to say, Yep, I was on vacation. Yeah, and then some people like really lean into it, and I'm like, Yeah, I've been telling you you need to come in all this time, and you ain't came in. So I had a great time on vacation.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_03So the burnout thing though is real, because you you said vacation, it's important that you give yourself breaks. I think the I think it's like in 60 percent or so, I don't know, it's a really high number. Um, uh, as far as why um, you know, I would say uh the peak, right, for just physicians in general. I don't know if there's actual chiropractic uh you know study out or whatever, but it's a really high percentage. Um, doctors who who left their profession didn't leave because of money. In fact, they were probably making the most amount of money in the right around the time that they left.
SPEAKER_02Yep.
SPEAKER_03Um, but yeah, so not 2015.
SPEAKER_01I was I was so burnt out because the 95% of DCs, we never take vacation because we lose, especially when you start to get staff. I had eight staff at one point in time. So for me to take a vacation, it was incredibly expensive because I still had to pay all those people.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And now I'm gone, I'm not making any money. Or when I would have somebody stand in, people are like, I'll just wait till Dr. Bailey gets back. But you you can't tell your employees, hey, we're closing down for a week, I'm on vacation, I'm not gonna get paid, y'all don't get paid either. You just can't. We can't. So DCs do they don't they don't take vacations starting from early in practice.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And and we just build our whole lives around seminars. A seminar is our our our vacation, so to speak. So yeah, you we we have to put those those things in and just schedule them throughout the year. When you have kids, it gets it's gotten easier for me since I've become a dad, because when he's on fall break, it's like I want to do something with my kid. So I'll just take the week off, we'll go do this and that. But but yeah, the burnout is very real. Doctors of chiropractic, I love you. I am I am you, we are each other. Okay, I exist because you exist. Take the vacations and um and get in and just try to set your practice up in a manner that even when you hire employees and say, hey, this is what the landscape's gonna be. You're gonna have six or eight weeks or whatever it is of vacation that you're not gonna get paid for. And the people that want that, then they'll show up. You just gotta start it off that way, all with intention.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Now, let's uh flip it. Doctor on the other end, right? You're year three, still trying to figure out you know if any of this is gonna work. Like, what do you say to them?
SPEAKER_01It will work as long as your purpose is in place. If you're just in it. for the money or you don't have your uh you don't have your craft perfected which I see a lot I have uh I've taught a lot of people adjustment techniques and things like that it with different volunteer programs through life university and things like that and uh having hand eye coordination and delivering chiropractic is a very important thing and having fast twist muscle fibers so if you're not all the way there three year doctors of chiropractic keep practicing waiting to have a patient on the table is not the time to practice you can practice just with going back through the curriculum and listening to and listening to the different books and the techniques go back through the technique when I first got out of school I would put myself through chiropractic sprints where I would call it a self-inflicted uh chiro school where I would go back through and just block everything out and go back through and study a certain um uh chiropractic technique and and sharpen the saw if you've heard of Stephen Covey's seven habits of highly effective people habit number six or seven is sharpen the saw because you have to continue to keep yourself sharp uh so if you're out in three years of practice are you gonna make it yes as long as you keep putting out that effort on a day in day out basis loving your clients and making sure they exchange value for you and and have a mentor the the the practitioner that I have now I work with him on adjustment skills and work with him on different things and it's it's really important to have somebody uh who's ahead of you that you can be connected with I wanted to go through some rapid fire questions but we are running really tight on time so I um that this this is the last one for you.
SPEAKER_03Yeah and this is one I ask every guest in in one form or another but as you as you know my my audience consists of kind of two two types of people you have laymen like myself who are trying to learn about what chiropractic actually is and you have DCs. But for those that are you know people like myself if if if a listener does exactly one thing for their health this week one tiny stack uh what what should it be?
SPEAKER_01I think people need to get out and just walk more and get outside.
SPEAKER_03Motion is lotion yep get outside if they can do it like right away just get outside and walk five minutes away from the house five minutes back five minutes away from the house five minutes back if it's that big of a chore then ten minutes away from the house did eat did it did eat ten minutes back and it'll build it'll build in that that tiny stack that habit will build on itself and the next thing you know you're like huh I don't want to walk anymore I think I kind of want to jog okay huh I'm gonna jog five minutes away from the house five minutes back it's 10 minutes it's over with it's easy if that's a good that's a good people would just stop thinking about it so much people like oh yeah I know you just go put your shoes on let's go yeah yep yeah finish this sentence the future of chiropractic is bright if you want it to be if you make it bright I like to talk about kind of what chiropractic is going to look like in the future when it comes to just the the medical landscape because I do feel like and we we won't have time to do that here today maybe maybe the next time you come on the show um but I I do feel like people are waking up a little bit when it comes to their health yeah more I see more and more people leaning towards the natural side of things um than the medical side the younger generations even my generation Gen X is starting to really do some natural stuff and um and and and I I I I think I think I agree um but I also I'm careful when I say that because it really depends on AI and what it feeds what it feeds the feeds is what I say because the the people rely on their feeds a lot.
SPEAKER_01So um but yeah I I I agree I believe the future of chiropractic is bright especially if more people do what I'm doing get the word out people cheese some good stuff yes all right so what's last question what's the one non-negotiable truth you want the DC in the audience to walk away with today the non-negotiable truth is we have to deliver chiropractic better than what we are you you have to be excellent and take x rays for crying out loud take x rays and look at x rays each visit you're with the client don't create a brand new experience every single time chiropractors I'm talking to you I love you I know the joint chiropractic chain exists a lot of you if you're new practitioners maybe you've worked there that is not a model of excellence it is a model that fits with a lot of people on a budget basis be a top level doctor and take x rays and be thorough period that's good it's good for people it's good for the profession thank you for that that was good doctor Aaron Bailey founder of Vining Spine and Health Center in Metro Atlanta chief chiropractic officer at Cairo Scribe Dr.
